Flippy Skirt

March 3, 2015

DSC_0037DSC_0114 DSC_0075Sweater: Ann Taylor (similar) | Skirt: J.Crew (On sale) | Booties: Dansko (similar) | Necklace: Madewell (old) | Bracelet: Stella & Dot (old) | Bag: Micheal Michael Kors (similar) |  Lipstick: Bobbi Brown (Warm Beige) | Lip Gloss: Smashbox Limitless Long Wear (Endless)

The last three outfit posts (including this one) have been monochromatic. This was not intentional – I like color. I don’t even own a  black sweater, unless you count this one with horizontal gold stripes.

On a recent shopping trip I picked up this tweed flippy skirt to add to my growing collection. This silhouette is different for me and I love it. I feel like it’s pretty versatile, and can be dressed up or down depending on the shoes/ top. Next time I’ll pair it with a chambray shirt.

On Sunday, I met my best friend for brunch at The Dish Cafe. It was our first time checking it out and the food was really good. We did a little shopping afterwards and went to see Fifty Shades of Grey. We both enjoyed the movie (and were a bit giggly).

I typically lay low on the weekends, but this one was a bit different and a lot of fun. Most of Saturday I lounged around the house and caught up on the shows that I had missed during the week. Later that night my husband and I went bowling with my sister-in-law and her boyfriend. Afterwards, we went to this place called The Royal Unicorn. It was a total dive. There was a birthday celebration in the lounge  and the guest sang karaoke the entire night. It was very entertaining.

On Sunday, I went to brunch at The Butcher & The Baker to meet Mil and Jules from South By Northwest. This was our first time meeting and I was so nervous! The meetup went better then I could have anticipated. The food was also really good.

Now for the outfit! I am wearing a nubby texture sweater with a ruffle silk underlay. The earrings are from Banana Republic and they might just be my new favorite. The necklaces are another new purchase from the Loft.

Hope everyone’s week is off to a good start.

Two Shades of Gray

January 29, 2015

DSC_0214 DSC_0338 DSC_0177DSC_0172Jacket: Loft (similar)| Blouse: Ann Taylor (similar) | Cords: Loft (similar)| Shoes: Sam Edelman | Brooches: Anthropologie (old) | Bracelet: Nordstrom (old) | Lip gloss: Giorgio Armani color 519  | Lipliner: NARS color Rosebud

These gray pants are super straight forward, but I still find them challenging to wear. Maybe it’s the texture of the cords, but they just seem drab. To give them a little flair, I added this sweater jacket and blouse to compliment the neutral color palette. Aren’t these bug pens adorably sweet?! I love them and don’t wear them nearly enough.

This weekend I’m going antiquing with my bestie at the Puyallup Antique & Collectible Show. We went in November and are excited to see what’s new. On Sunday, my husband and I are hosting a small Super Bowl party for our family. Happy weekend!

Peplums & Brooches

January 15, 2015

Peplum Coat: J.Crew Factory (similar) | Shirt: Loft (old) | Jean: AG (similar) | Shoes: Vince Camuto (similar) | Necklace: Dogeared | Bracelet: J.Crew (old) | Brooch: Lulu Frost for J.Crew| Earrings: J.Crew (similar) | Watch: Marc by Marc Jacobs |  Lip gloss: Giorgio Armani color 519| Lipliner: NARScolor Rosebud

Growing up I always wore earrings. Then one day I stopped. No particular reason. After seeing a handful of earrings that I liked, I decided to make an effort to start wearing them again. Two hangups I have with earrings:

  • They are not visible when I wear my hair down
  • I feel like I have to tone down my other accessories when wearing them

Another exciting item that I would like to highlight is this amazing bow brooch!  I picked out this beauty during a J.Crew 30% off promotion. I love brooches and have acquired quite a few but need to push myself to wear them more often.

I love a feminine sweater jacket and this peplum one fits the bill. It’s dressy enough for the office but still casual for the weekends. Another way to wear this look is to swap out the jeans for navy cords, change the top for a different color, and swap the wedges for riding boots.

I can’t believe we are mid way through January. Time is passing quick. Have a great weekend everyone and see you Tuesday!

It’s December

Since Thursday was Thanksgiving, I decided to take Friday off for a long weekend. It was nice to rest and visit with family. This was the first Thanksgiving with both my husband and I’s families. We had Thanksgiving at McCormick and Schmick’s. Afterwards, everyone headed to our house to watch the Seahawks beat the 49ers.

On Saturday we woke up to the first snowfall of the season. It was only a dusting, but still exciting. Those are the best; you get to witness the beauty of fresh snow but it does not limit you to staying in.

To those who celebrate Thanksgiving I hope you all had a lovely holiday!
