The Perfect Pixie Pant

May 5, 2015

Lace & Pearls Stripe Tee 5Lace & Pearls Stripe Tee 4Lace & Pearls Stripe Tee 3 Blouse: Loft | Pant: J.Crew Factory | Neckalce: J.Crew Factory (old)| Bracelet: J.Crew (old) | Flats: Sam Edelman | Lip gloss: Giorgio Armani (color 519) | Lipliner:NARS color Rosebud

Today I am rocking the classic navy pant with nude ballet flats. These pants make me feel like a modern Audrey Hepburn. I love the cropped length and stretchy forgiving fabric. The cut is fitted through the hips and thigh and perfect for my 5’3 frame. They now come in two more colors, red and pink (both on my wishlist).

I have yet to find the perfect striped tee, but I love the chiffon-like fabric on this one. The flowy material is slimming and has a feminine lace trim.

The weather is still on the cooler side in Seattle, but that didn’t stop me from grabbing my flower necklace in anticipation of the warm weather.

Put a Bow On It

I love the bow neck on this green and white stripe blouse. It’s such a fun piece and can be dressed up or down. Today I paired it with my favorite cardigan, but it would also look cute with a pullover sweater.

These are one of my favorite jeans. The cut (stilt) is awesome and they fit like a glove. Loft and J.Crew also do denim right, in my book.

What denim brands do you recommend?

Staples

Closet staples are the best. You know the ones, that piece that you continually reach for time after time. Mine is this cardigan. I have it in two colors and it has literally become my second skin. I wear it at least once a week.

My other go-to is a simple sleeveless blouse. When in doubt, I grab a blouse, add a cardigan and jewelry, and I’m ready. This formula works well for jeans, pants, and skirts, and it takes the complexity out of your morning.

What are your favorite closet staples?

Victoria Trip

April 23, 2015

2015-04-17 18.13.47

Last weekend we went to Victoria, British Columbia. It was our first time visiting and the weather was perfect.

abbeymoore (2)

We stayed at the amazing Abbeymoore Manor (bed & breakfast), located in the beautiful Rockland Mansion district. From the moment we arrived we were swept away by good service and excellent food. They accommodate dietary restrictions and kept me dairy-free for our stay.

Our suite had a private entrance, patio, full kitchen, bathroom, and sitting room. The bathroom was beautiful with a sea foam glass sink, Tiffany blue walls, and the shower had the prettiest pale green tile. We could have stayed a few weeks.

On my birthday, they surprised me with a delicious dairy/gluten-free cake. It was so sweet.

Abbeymoore bday

Up the street from the Abbeymoore is the Government House. We took a stroll through the gardens and were surprised to find black tail deer at one of the lookout points. I was thrilled!

As mentioned in my previous post, we made the drive to the Butchart Gardens. It was absolutely stunning.

We did a lot of walking and eating during the trip. On the last night we had dinner on the water at the Blue Crab. Before leaving we took the harbour tour to see the marina, float homes, and Fisherman’s Wharf.

Afterwards we ventured to Red Fish Blue Fish for fish and chips. We waited in line for about 30 minutes, but it was totally worth it.

Butchart Gardens

For my birthday we went to Victoria, British Columbia. Visiting The Butchart Gardens was at the top of my list and it did not disappoint. All of the gardens were breathtaking, but our favorite was the sunken garden.

This blouse is becoming one of my favorites. I love the mauve color and feminine placket. The necklace was purchased a while back and is the perfect compliment to an otherwise causal look. These pictures were taken in the Italian Gardens, where they serve gelato (my husband was thrilled after lugging the camera around all day).

On Thursday I’ll have more pictures from the trip. Stick around!

Bday Weekend!

My husband and I are going to Victoria B.C. for my birthday weekend. I am looking forward to checking out the Butchart Gardens and tea at The Fairmount Empress. It will be our first time visiting, and we are excited!

For this look I paired my favorite jeans with a simple knit. I love the flowy hem and flattering silhouette. This is a sweater that I wear often. The necklace was a previous birthday gift from my sister-in-law. I remember the story of how she tried to find the perfect gift. She did a great job and I love it.

Have a good weekend. Thanks for reading!

It’s not quite warm enough in Seattle to wear this dress on it’s own, so I topped it off with a cozy pullover, giving it the appearance of a skirt. I’ve had this dress for several years and it never gets old. I love the classic silhouette with polka dots.

This look could be the sister version of this post. What do you think?

Carrie Bradshaw Moment

Lace & Pearls Tulle SkirtLace & Pearls Tulle Skirt 1Lace & Pearls Tulle Skirt 2Lace & Pearls Tulle Skirt 4 Lace & Pearls Tulle Skirt 3Chambray: J.Crew (similar) | Skirt: Club Monaco (similar) | Necklace: Loft (similar) | Bracelet: J.Crew (old) | Shoes: Jambu (old) | Lipstick: Bite Beauty (color Moka)

When I picture a tulle skirt, I cannot help but think theatrical or Carrie Bradshaw. Finding the balance between the two can be hit or miss. So what better way to honor Carrie then to pair this look with a classic chambray shirt. While the skirt takes center stage, the rest of the look remains simple yet fun.

The challenge of owning a tulle skirt is the styling aspect. You now have this great piece and no idea how to wear it. Pinterest has been helpful, allowing me to curate a board of creative ways to don a tutu.

Want a tulle skirt of your own? Then check out Space 46. This site was recommended to me by Nazneen from Nazneen Zainal. She is a girlie girl and wears a tulle skirt like a champ!

Kudos to my mom for taking these pics. Thanks so much!

Polka Dot Sweater

Whenever I wear this polka dot sweater, people think that I am rooting for the Seattle Sounders or the Seahawks (depending on the season). I am not a big sports fan, but my husband is a supporter of both. So lets just call me a honorary enthusiast.

This sweater is a favorite of mine. It’s 100 % cashmere and the pattern makes me feel like a big kid. It’s a good seasonal piece as we transition into warm weather. The bag is from Nordstrom Rack. I love the color and style, it looks very bohemian and will be great for spring.

A big thanks to my mom for stepping in as photographer while my husband recovers from lasik surgery.

Say Goodbye to Oily Skin

April 2, 2015

Milk of Magnesia

Last week I wrote this Beauty Haul post and asked if anyone knew of a good primer for oily skin. Marae from The Always Fabulous recommended Milk of Magnesia as a skin primer. If you’re not familiar with this product it is typically used for occasional constipation. I found this article and watched a slew of YouTube videos for application techniques.

It should be noted that I have tried countless skincare products and have not found anything to keep my oily skin at bay. If you have dry or combination skin this product may cause issues with dryness and tightening of the skin. It should only be used on oily skin.

With a foundation brush I applied a thin layer over my entire face around 6:30 am. I let it dry for about 5 minutes. Once set, a white residue appeared on my face. This is normal. I then proceeded to apply my foundation using a foundation brush and finished with powder.

The end results was a gorgeous porcelain matte finish. Twelve hours later I was still shine free! I did have a glimmer of shine on the top of my nose, but other then that my makeup still appeared fresh. I can’t believe I’ve gone through life without this product. It is 100% amazing!

Check out this fun video for a product review and tips on application.
