Bumble Bee

Friday my husband and I celebrated our 5 year wedding anniversary. We are such homebodies that we stayed in the entire day and just relaxed. My husband made Salmon with Green Pea Mash for lunch and Steak with Red Wine Sauce and Smashed Potatoes for dinner. Both were incredible and I honestly can not choose a favorite.

For the longest time, I didn’t have shorts in my wardrobe. A Vegas trip last year meant they needed to happen. Shorts drive me bananas. If the inseam is too short they ride up, and then I’m constantly having to pull at them. Because of the insanely hot weather we’ve been having, shorts are the best option for beating the heat. Since I love printed pants, I had to get a pair of printed shorts. These black & white stripes were perfect. To glam things up a bit, I added a pop of color up top and a pair of statement earrings. Unintentionally, this outfit ended up resembling a bumble bee. Hopefully a cute one.

Stripes

These coated jeans have been in heavy rotation recently. Prior to purchasing I struggled to find the perfect pair – it was a toss up between faux leather pants or coated denim. I still want a pair of faux leather pants but have yet to find the right fit.

This blouse is a recent purchase. I love a striped shirt that is lightweight and not too fitted. I’m also loving this necklace. I wasn’t sure it would get much wear but I’ve been surprised at how often I’ve reached for it.

Flippy Skirt

The last three outfit posts (including this one) have been monochromatic. This was not intentional – I like color. I don’t even own a  black sweater, unless you count this one with horizontal gold stripes.

On a recent shopping trip I picked up this tweed flippy skirt to add to my growing collection. This silhouette is different for me and I love it. I feel like it’s pretty versatile, and can be dressed up or down depending on the shoes/ top. Next time I’ll pair it with a chambray shirt.

On Sunday, I met my best friend for brunch at The Dish Cafe. It was our first time checking it out and the food was really good. We did a little shopping afterwards and went to see Fifty Shades of Grey. We both enjoyed the movie (and were a bit giggly).

Textures

I typically lay low on the weekends, but this one was a bit different and a lot of fun. Most of Saturday I lounged around the house and caught up on the shows that I had missed during the week. Later that night my husband and I went bowling with my sister-in-law and her boyfriend. Afterwards, we went to this place called The Royal Unicorn. It was a total dive. There was a birthday celebration in the lounge  and the guest sang karaoke the entire night. It was very entertaining.

On Sunday, I went to brunch at The Butcher & The Baker to meet Mil and Jules from South By Northwest. This was our first time meeting and I was so nervous! The meetup went better then I could have anticipated. The food was also really good.

Now for the outfit! I am wearing a nubby texture sweater with a ruffle silk underlay. The earrings are from Banana Republic and they might just be my new favorite. The necklaces are another new purchase from the Loft.

Hope everyone’s week is off to a good start.

A Little Bit of Grunge

February 19, 2015

DSC_0228 DSC_0229-2 DSC_0290 DSC_0322 DSC_0369Sweater: Madewell | Blouse: Ann Taylor (similar)| Jeans: Zara (similar) | Scarf: Loft (sold out) | Necklace: J.Crew (sold out) | Ring: Oscar de la Renta (old) | Bracelet: J.Crew (old)| Purse: Marc by Marc (similar) | Booties: Dansko (similar)| Lipstick: Bobbi Brown (Warm Beige) | Lip Gloss: Smashbox Limitless Long Wear (Endless)

I am wearing a scarf! The only time I wear a scarf is with my coat to stay warm but never as an accessory. I have always liked the look but couldn’t get into it because of my broad shoulders and full chest – it added too much bulk.  After studying how others wear them, I decided that pairing one with some basics was the easiest way to pull it off.

I can’t believe the amount of times I’ve worn this blouse. I wear a lot of prints and novelty type items, so the fact that I managed to come up with three different looks wearing one blouse is astounding.

It’s almost the weekend! I can hardly believe it. Long weekends are the best, but short work weeks are even better. I hope everyone has something fun planned. See you next week and thanks for reading.

It’s December

Since Thursday was Thanksgiving, I decided to take Friday off for a long weekend. It was nice to rest and visit with family. This was the first Thanksgiving with both my husband and I’s families. We had Thanksgiving at McCormick and Schmick’s. Afterwards, everyone headed to our house to watch the Seahawks beat the 49ers.

On Saturday we woke up to the first snowfall of the season. It was only a dusting, but still exciting. Those are the best; you get to witness the beauty of fresh snow but it does not limit you to staying in.

To those who celebrate Thanksgiving I hope you all had a lovely holiday!

Dalmatian Print

November 24, 2014

DSC_0050 DSC_0053 DSC_0058

Cardigan: J.Crew Factory | Blouse: Ann Taylor (sold out online)| Jeans: J.Crew | Boots: Dankso (similar) | Bracelet: Loft | Watch: Marc by Marc Jacobs (similar) | Ring: Gorjana | Lip gloss: M.A.C in color Sinnamon

This dalmatian print blouse and cranberry cardigan are a match made in heaven. And to think I almost returned this blouse because I wasn’t sure how to wear it. Pairing it with a brightly colored sweater took it to the next level, showcasing the print. I have been wearing this pair of coated skinny jeans on repeat since purchasing.

A big thanks to my mom for playing photographer this weekend and capturing this look.
